| Carolyn Smith Writer: Go Zone Junior, Go Zone, i.Site Carolyn has been the editor and writer of the Go Zone and i.Site programmes since they were launched in 2003. She is also the writer of the publication for Year 1-2 students - Go Zone Junior. Carolyn has written over 200 NiE curriculum resource pages for newspapers and a number of other curriculum resources while she was the NiE Co-ordinator for the Waikato Times. Prior to this she was a primary school teacher for 15 years after graduating with a BSc in Zoology from Victoria University. As a teacher, she had extensive involvement in professional development courses, conducting many teacher workshops at in-service and teacher-only days. Her area of expertise was children's written language, art and classroom environment. Her aim as the writer of Go Zone Junior, Go Zone and i.Site has been to produce visually exciting, educationally sound, high quality curriculum resources for kids. The NiE programmes for the younger age group must have a "fun" aspect, so these publications are designed with this in mind. Having fun at this stage is considered the key to ultimately instilling an interest in, curiosity about and understanding of the world around them and New Zealand's place within it. |
Bennett Row Writer: Newslinks & Zoned In Born and raised in Aotearoa, Bennett has been the editor and writer of Newslinks and Zoned In since March 2007. Bennett gained a Bachelor of Arts in History, and a graduate Diploma of Teaching in History, Social Studies and English, from the University of Waikato. He has been teaching since 2005 and has taught in Hamilton and London. Bennett has a genuine passion for history, social studies, current events and pop culture. Along with a determined approach to providing material relevant to many different areas of the New Zealand Curriculum he aims to create in-depth and informative mini newspapers. He is able to include a variety of activities that incorporate the necessary skills of the inquiry, values exploration and social decision making processes, as well as enabling students to be creative and to develop critical thinking skills. Utilising the design expertise of Andy McGregor, Bennett aims to produce topical mini newspapers that are meaningful, challenging and fun. |
